Warcraft III patch 1.23 goes live

The technical team of Blizzard has set the new Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne patch 1.23 live.

The patch details were already known on March 3, when we reported that Blizzard have applied the patch to their Westfall server.

Patch 1.23:
FEATURES
- Battle.net now uses a new banner ad system.

FIXES
- Fixed an exploit where an altered custom map would be seen identical tothe original custom map.
- Fixed an issue where some patches could not apply on Intel Macs.

As always new patch means a lot of people will have trouble updating it. If you are having problems with Registry errors where the system can’t find the Warcraft III\InstallPath, reinstalling the game might be the best solution:

If you want to save your character profiles or saved games, copy the "Save" folder from your Warcraft III folder to another folder on your hard drive for safe keeping. When the game is reinstalled you can copy the folder back to the Warcraft III folder. To uninstall the game use the Warcraft III Uninstaller (click on "Start", "Programs", "Warcraft III", "Warcraft III Uninstall").

Now you can uninstall the game using the Warcraft III uninstaller by clicking on "Start", "Programs", "Warcraft III", and then the uninstall option. Next, go into the directory where Warcraft III was previously installed and see if the "Warcraft III" folder is still listed. If it is still listed, right-click on it and delete it.

Then run a thorough scandisk and defrag of your hard drive(s). You will probably find it helpful to disable your screen saver and power management features before you scandisk or defrag. Sometimes Windows will restart the defragmentation and/or scandisk if your screen saver or power management kicks in. The following webpage has instructions on how to complete this: http://us.blizzard.com/support/article/21144.

Empty your "Recycle Bin" if it contains files and restart your computer.

If you are using Windows XP/2000/Vista or Mac OSX please make sure you are logged on as an administrator account. If the game is not installed on an administrator account, computer permissions can prevent the installation from completing. We cannot support the game on a non-administrator account. To find out which user accounts are marked as Administrator accounts, please see the instructions below:

-Click Start > Control Panel and look for an icon called User Accounts.
-Double click this and it should bring up a list of users on your computer.
-Find the user account that matches your user name and have a look in the group column, it may say administrator, power user or user. This is what type of account you are logged on with. If it says administrator you should be ok.
